Understanding Blending

This article describes Brew Ninja's blending system by demonstrating a tank-to-tank transfer with multiple batches.

Example

The first tank is completely full with a total volume of 100 hL; the proportional volume of the first batch to the second batch is 2 to 3.

Our second tank is half full with a volume of 50 hL; all of this volume is from Batch 3.

First Transfer

From the first tank, 50 hL is transferred into the second tank. This is the first transfer.

While the total volume of the first tank is now only 50 hL, the proportion of the volumes of batch 1 to batch 2 is still 2 to 3.

The second tank now has a total volume of 100 hL. Half of this is from the tank's contents before the transfer; the other half is what was transferred from the first tank. Batch 1 and 2 have been blended into the tank: the proportion of volumes of batch 1 to batch 2 is still 2 to 3.

Each batch now accounts for the following percentage of the tank's total volume:

Batch 1 20%
Batch 2 30%
Batch 3 50%

Second Transfer

10 hL from this tank is transferred into an empty third tank. Each batch accounts for the same percentage of the tank's total volume as it did in the source tank before the transfer.

Brew Ninja also keeps track of the ingredients in each batch, materials consumed during previous transfers, and ingredients added directly to tanks during transfers. For more information, visit this article on WIPs.
